From the field
Practical notes on building food plants and cold storage. All insights
Glycol, CO₂ or ammonia: choosing refrigeration for a food plant
Each system trades first cost, efficiency, safety and regulatory risk differently. Here is how to frame the decision before design starts.
Why freezer envelopes fail, and how to build one that doesn't
Ice on the ceiling, heaving floors and fogged doorways usually trace back to a handful of envelope details. Most are cheap to get right and expensive to fix.
What self-performing actually changes on a cold storage build
Most general contractors manage subcontractors. On a temperature-controlled building, doing the trades yourself changes the schedule, the risk and who answers the phone.
